7/11 Materials is an environmentally responsible company and a leader our industry. Empowering our team to continuously increase efficiencies results in a continually lowered carbon footprint. For instance, the solar panels at our Stockton facility reduce energy costs AND reduce carbon-based energy use. Recently, 7/11 Materials has partnered with CarbonCure Technologies to further reduce the carbon footprint of the final concrete mixture.

7/11 Materials is the first company in the Central Valley to implement CarbonCure’s concrete technology into their specifications. As outlined in the graphic above, this process introduces waste carbon dioxide (CO2) collected from local industry emitters into fresh concrete. The injected CO2 is mixed into concrete and reacts with the cement to chemically convert into a mineral that increases the final strength of the concrete mix. The CO2 becomes permanently captured and thus reduces emissions to the atmosphere. Because this process produces stronger concrete, we can use less cement and that further reduce emissions. The resulting carbon footprint is 5-10% lower than regular concrete.
The largest benefit with the new concrete mix is a strong, reliable, predictable product that benefits the environment by mineralization of large quantities of CO2 and reducing embodied carbon. This is consistent with 7/11 Materials’ efforts to lead the industry by being good stewards of the environment for all operations. We are supporting the sustainability goals of our customers by delivering high-quality, low-carbon concrete.
