Dan Hill, GRI's GPS Specialist

Updated: May 20

This month we recognize Dan Hill for his contributions to George Reed - with a focus on Teamwork and Training.

Dan is our GPS Specialist supporting grade control for our operations. He works closely with the build teams from estimating stage to the construction stage and periodically provides grade control in the rock plants. His focus is GPS model management ensuring model accuracy aligns with project design. Depending on workload, Dan will generate the model internally from the CAD design files; if model work is outsourced, Dan will ensure the quality of the model before it goes to the field. The model (file) is then transferred to the field where it is uploaded by the grade setter and equipment operators. The model design file is a critical process for quality of work built and accepted; it can look great but if not to designed grades, you may face potential pay deduction or worse is removal and replacement.

Recently, George Reed upgraded to a new Gomaco Commander III concrete slipform machine with a Trimble system (eliminating setting string for machine control). Dan has been instrumental in helping to work out the kinks, learning the technicalities of the new system, and providing training to the crews.

Dan's been in the industry 26+ years, and 8 of those with George Reed. Dan carries a heavy load, he takes great pride in his work, always has a positive attitude and is willing to help where needed.

Outside work, Dan enjoys camping and off-roading in his side by side with his wife, Krystal, and occasionally their beautiful and very loved Dobermans, Loki and Thor, who keep them busy.

Dan, we appreciate your professionalism and positivity you bring to the George Reed family, and your never limiting mindset of "if there's a will, there's a way"!!
