James Martinez – Chandler, AZ Shop Foreman

We would like to spotlight and send a special recognition to James Martinez for his outstanding contributions to the Memorial Day Safety Stand Down and his unwavering dedication to safety at VSS. James brought invaluable real-world experience to the event through his extensive background as a firefighter and Fire Chief with the Thunderbird Fire District, where he has proudly served for more than 13 years. Inspired by his father, who was a volunteer firefighter, James has continued a family tradition of service and commitment to protecting others. His firsthand knowledge and experience made the fire extinguisher demonstration both engaging and impactful, helping employees better understand the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness.

In addition to his service as a firefighter, James has been a mechanic at VSS for nearly 22 years. Throughout his tenure, he has earned the respect of his peers not only as a skilled professional but also as a trusted friend, mentor, and role model. His expertise was especially valuable during the brake and vehicle inspection portion of the Safety Stand Down, where he shared practical knowledge and reinforced safe operating practices.

Outside of VSS, James is an entrepreneur and rancher who owns JCM Services, providing freight, metal fabrication, and tire services, and Nordic Apothecary, which produces handcrafted personal care products. He also operates Aspen Ridge Ranch, where he raises pigs and enjoys a homesteading lifestyle with his family. His son previously worked for VSS. His daughter, Baily, serves as a firefighter with her dad at the Thunderbird Fire Distric, and she just received her diploma in Fire 1 and 2 Academy. James said, "I had the honor of pinning Baily Martinez as she received her diploma for completing her Fire 1 and Fire 2 Academy!"

He takes the time to teach employees the safest and most effective ways to perform their work, earning their trust through leadership by example. His knowledge, dedication, and positive influence make him a highly valued member of the VSS team and deserving of this recognition.
