Giving back through hands-on service is one of the most meaningful ways we can support our community. Recently, our teams had the opportunity to do just that by completing a volunteer donation project for Lucille School in Waterford, CA.
Over the course of this project, 19 employees volunteered nearly 150 total-hours to design, build, and deliver 14 custom backpack racks for the school. From start to finish, this effort was a true team collaboration.
The project began with the purchase of all necessary materials, followed by a dedicated group of volunteers who stepped in to cut and weld the metal frames, ensuring each rack was sturdy and built to last. Once fabricated, the racks were painted and assembled, bringing the project one step closer to completion. The final stage was delivery—personally transporting the finished racks to Lucille School.
The response from the school was incredibly rewarding. The staff and students were extremely appreciative, and it was clear that these backpack racks would make a meaningful difference in helping keep classrooms organized and students’ belongings safely stored. At a Waterford School Board meeting in December, our BUILD member, Stephany, representing all Reed Family Companies, was presented with a plaque from the Waterford School District and the Lucille Whitehead Intermediate School Principle, Ryan Smith.
Projects like this showcase what’s possible when we come together with a shared purpose. We’re proud of our employees who volunteered their time, skills, and energy to support local students—and we look forward to continuing to build strong connections within our community, one project at a time.
On October 10th, we will be going out to Reed International in Hickman, to build 14 backpack racks for a local school. We will be cutting wood, assembling the racks, adding wheels and painting them.
