New Company - Union Pavement Services

Reed Family Companies is pleased to announce the opening of Union Pavement Services, Inc. as a stand-alone, signatory pavement preservation contractor located in Jurupa Valley, California.  The contracting landscape in Southern California has been rapidly changing to require union contractors to perform slurry seal, micro surfacing and chip seal on more and more of their pavement preservation contracts.  Project labor agreement requirements and increased demand for union subcontractors to perform preservation work for union prime contractors have limited RFC’s existing operations to participate on these projects.

Doug Ford has been hired as Vice President and General Manager of UPS.  He brings with him over 30 years of industry knowledge specific to Southern California.  His experience provides knowledge of the local area, local labor pool and knowledge to the challenges of being a new union slurry seal contractor.  Additionally, we have hired Melissa Ailshie as the Office Manager for UPS based in Jurupa Valley. 

Based in Southern California, UPS is signatory to the Laborers’ International Parking and Highway Improvement: (Striping, Slurry and Seal Coat Operations) Local 1184 which provides full movement of crews within 12 Southern California counties.  Additionally, Doug will have a seat on the Striping, Slurry and Seal Coat Operations Apprenticeship council.  “Staying focused on quality labor will benefit UPS and the industry” says Ford.

UPS will complement other subsidiaries by utilizing the VSS Macropaver equipment line as well as the use of materials from other subsidiaries in our group. This strategic move enhances our overall contracting footprint in California and positions our group to continue to lead and influence the rapidly growing California pavement preservation market.
