Putting a Stop to Sticky Fingers at the Stockpiles

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

In recent years VSSI field operations have been seeing an uptick in theft and experiencing vandalism at stockpiles during off hours. These thefts and vandalisms have created great delays for our projects, resulted in damaged equipment, and also caused spills and environmental emergencies.

After researching many options, and in an effort to discourage these unwanted guests from our stockpiles, the VSS team needed a solution that can help protect the equipment at night and also provide oversight during the day. Roman Benedyuk and several members of the operations team, equipment maintenance team, and the safety team attended the 2023 CONEXPO event in Las Vegas to look for solutions. While at the show, the team came across a site security vendor that specialized in providing remote site surveillance with high quality cameras. Roman and the VSS team met with the Live View Technology / Lot Cop team and discussed their equipment as a security option to protect stockpiles.

Shortly after the CONEXPO show, VSS took delivery of two LVT units. These units have been delivered and deployed to stockpiles with the greatest needs ranging from Redding CA to San Diego CA and Phoenix AZ to Tucson AZ. These LVT units are solar powered, fully self contained, are equipped with 3 high definition day and night cameras as well as 3 thermal cameras, also equipped with multiple strobe lights, a loud speaker and a spot light.

Huge shout-out to Roman Benedyuk for caring about keeping our equipment safe. His tireless research and implementing this strategy as a trial this season, has proven him to be a great asset to our operations. As a result it has paid some nice dividends with a reduction in these unwanted events at our staging areas. Thank you Roman!
