VSS Teamed Up with City of Elk Grove for Big Truck Day

Updated: May 30, 2023

On Wednesday May 8th, National Public Works Week was celebrated annually by municipalities across the country. Its focus is to educate the public about the value and necessities of public works projects throughout our country. Since 1960, APWA has sponsored National Public Works Week. Across North America, our more than 30,000 members in the U.S. and Canada use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and operating at the heart of their local communities to improve everyday quality of life.

VSSI and VSSE teamed together with the City of Elk Grove this year to celebrate National Public Works Week where the community learned all about the equipment and skills required to maintain a city. Kids and parents checked out the City's construction equipment, dump trucks, tractors, back hoe, garbage truck, chipper truck, buses and more! The families who attended also got to hang out and play in the sand with BIG tires, build a small city, color a monster mural and all kinds of family fun.

VSS featured one of their Emulsion Spreader Trucks, while Parrish Bowes and Tyler Tapa of VSS staffed the booth where kids played Spin the Wheel to win a prize!
