At Reed Family Companies, sustainability should not be thought of as a separate initiative or a new expectation, it is something that should be woven into our daily actions and reflected in how we fulfill our S.E.R.V.I.C.E. Principles. Sustainable practices mean balancing strong, reliable operations with environmental stewardship and positive contributions to the workplace and the communities where we live and work. It means utilizing measurable data to guide eco‑friendly practices, reduce our carbon footprint, and meet today’s needs without compromising the needs of future generations.

Across Reed Family Companies, sustainability is already happening in meaningful ways. We are increasing efficiency at our plants, replacing inefficient old lighting for new efficient LED lights, incorporating more RAP into our HMA operations, and replacing older boilers with new low‑NOx boilers to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Practical, Action‑Oriented Ways Employees Can Contribute at Work
Whether you work at one of our plants, on a construction crew, or in the office, individual employees can make a meaningful impact on sustainability at work through simple, practical actions each day. This includes always following safety and environmental procedures, turning off unused equipment, being mindful of water usage, and quickly reporting any leaks, spills, unusual odors, or inefficiencies.

Other ways employees can contribute to companywide sustainability efforts include proper equipment use and care, doing tasks correctly the first time to help minimize rework, and using resources wisely to avoid unnecessary waste. Additionally, speaking up with ideas for improving efficiency, safety, or quality, encourages continuous improvement. Together, these everyday actions support safety, quality, cost control, and environmental stewardship, helping create a stronger and more responsible workplace for everyone.
Practical Ways Employees Can Practice Sustainability at Home

The habits that help us build a sustainable workplace can also make a positive difference at home. Simple steps like turning off lights and appliances when they're not in use, saving water, reducing waste, recycling whenever possible, and making sure vehicles and equipment are regularly maintained, all support efficiency, safety, and environment stewardship. Each small action at home helps reinforce the same commitment to responsibility and care that we practice every day at work.

Sustainability is not about perfection or only making big changes, it is about intentional choices made every day. When employees look out for each other, take pride in their work, care for equipment, and think about long-term impacts, they are living the S.E.R.V.I.C.E. Principles and working towards a more sustainable future.
It’s the consistent, thoughtful decisions made across our operations that protect our people, strengthen our business, and help ensure a sustainable future for Reed Family Companies.
